The first of Muharram

اللَّهُمَّ أَنْتَ الْإِلَهُ الْقَدِيمُ وَ هَذِهِ سَنَةٌ جَدِيدَةٌ فَأَسْأَلُكَ فِيهَا الْعِصْمَةَ مِنَ الشَّيْطَانِ وَ الْقُوَّةَ عَلَى هَذِهِ النَّفْسِ الْأَمَّارَةِ بِالسُّوءِ وَ الاشْتِغَالَ بِمَا يُقَرِّبُنِي إِلَيْكَ يَا كَرِيمُ يَا ذَا الْجَلالِ وَ الْإِكْرَامِ يَا عِمَادَ مَنْ لا عِمَادَ لَهُ يَا ذَخِيرَةَ مَنْ لا ذَخِيرَةَ لَهُ يَا حِرْزَ مَنْ لا حِرْزَ لَهُ يَا غِيَاثَ مَنْ لا غِيَاثَ لَهُ يَا سَنَدَ مَنْ لا سَنَدَ لَهُ يَا كَنْزَ مَنْ لا كَنْزَ لَهُ يَا حَسَنَ الْبَلاءِ يَا عَظِيمَ الرَّجَاءِ يَا عِزَّ الضُّعَفَاءِ يَا مُنْقِذَ الْغَرْقَى يَا مُنْجِيَ الْهَلْكَى يَا مُنْعِمُ يَا مُجْمِلُ يَا مُفْضِلُ يَا مُحْسِنُ،

O God, You are the Eternal God, and this is a new year. I ask You in it for protection from Satan, strength over this self that commands to evil, and occupation with what brings me nearer to You, O Generous One, O Possessor of majesty and honour. O Support of the one who has no support, O Provision of the one who has no provision, O Refuge of the one who has no refuge, O Rescue of the one who has no rescue, O Stay of the one who has no stay, O Treasure of the one who has no treasure, O You whose trial is good, O Great Hope, O Honour of the weak, O Saviour of the drowning, O Deliverer of the perishing, O Giver of blessings, O Bestower of beauty, O Giver of favours, O Benefactor,

أَنْتَ الَّذِي سَجَدَ لَكَ سَوَادُ اللَّيْلِ وَ نُورُ النَّهَارِ وَ ضَوْءُ الْقَمَرِ وَ شُعَاعُ الشَّمْسِ وَ دَوِيُّ الْمَاءِ وَ حَفِيفُ الشَّجَرِ يَا اللَّهُ لا شَرِيكَ لَكَ اللَّهُمَّ اجْعَلْنَا خَيْرا مِمَّا يَظُنُّونَ وَ اغْفِرْ لَنَا مَا لا يَعْلَمُونَ وَ لا تُؤَاخِذْنَا بِمَا يَقُولُونَ حَسْبِيَ اللَّهُ لا إِلَهَ إِلا هُوَ عَلَيْهِ تَوَكَّلْتُ وَ هُوَ رَبُّ الْعَرْشِ الْعَظِيمِ آمَنَّا بِهِ كُلٌّ مِنْ عِنْدِ رَبِّنَا وَ مَا يَذَّكَّرُ إِلا أُولُوا الْأَلْبَابِ رَبَّنَا لا تُزِغْ قُلُوبَنَا بَعْدَ إِذْ هَدَيْتَنَا وَ هَبْ لَنَا مِنْ لَدُنْكَ رَحْمَةً إِنَّكَ أَنْتَ الْوَهَّابُ

You are the One before whom the darkness of night prostrates, and the light of day, the glow of the moon, the rays of the sun, the murmur of the water and the rustling of the trees. O God, You have no partner. O God, make us better than what they think of us, forgive us what they do not know, and do not take us to task for what they say. God suffices me; there is no god but He; in Him I trust, and He is the Lord of the Mighty Throne. We believe in it; all is from our Lord, and none take heed except those of understanding. Our Lord, do not let our hearts swerve after You have guided us, and grant us mercy from Yourself; You are the Bestower.
