Munajat of the Beseechers

بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَنِ الرَّحِيمِ

In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

إِلَهِي إِنْ كَانَ قَلَّ زَادِي فِي الْمَسِيرِ إِلَيْكَ فَلَقَدْ حَسُنَ ظَنِّي بِالتَّوَكُّلِ عَلَيْكَ وَ إِنْ كَانَ جُرْمِي قَدْ أَخَافَنِي مِنْ عُقُوبَتِكَ فَإِنَّ رَجَائِي قَدْ أَشْعَرَنِي بِالْأَمْنِ مِنْ نِقْمَتِكَ وَ إِنْ كَانَ ذَنْبِي قَدْ عَرَضَنِي لِعِقَابِكَ فَقَدْ آذَنَنِي حُسْنُ ثِقَتِي بِثَوَابِكَ وَ إِنْ أَنَامَتْنِي الْغَفْلَةُ عَنِ الاسْتِعْدَادِ لِلِقَائِكَ فَقَدْ نَبَّهَتْنِي الْمَعْرِفَةُ بِكَرَمِكَ وَ آلائِكَ وَ إِنْ أَوْحَشَ مَا بَيْنِي وَ بَيْنَكَ فَرْطُ الْعِصْيَانِ وَ الطُّغْيَانِ فَقَدْ آنَسَنِي بُشْرَى الْغُفْرَانِ وَ الرِّضْوَانِ.

My God, if my provision for the journey to You is scant, my reliance on You has made my expectation good; if my crime has made me fear Your punishment, my hope has made me feel secure from Your vengeance; if my sin has exposed me to Your chastisement, my good trust in Your reward has assured me; if heedlessness has lulled me to sleep, keeping me from preparing to meet You, knowledge of Your generosity and Your bounties has woken me; and if excess of disobedience and transgression has made a desolation of what lies between me and You, the glad tidings of forgiveness and good pleasure have brought me comfort.

أَسْأَلُكَ بِسُبُحَاتِ وَجْهِكَ وَ بِأَنْوَارِ قُدْسِكَ وَ أَبْتَهِلُ إِلَيْكَ بِعَوَاطِفِ رَحْمَتِكَ وَ لَطَائِفِ بِرِّكَ أَنْ تُحَقِّقَ ظَنِّي بِمَا أُؤَمِّلُهُ مِنْ جَزِيلِ إِكْرَامِكَ وَ جَمِيلِ إِنْعَامِكَ فِي الْقُرْبَى مِنْكَ وَ الزُّلْفَى لَدَيْكَ وَ التَّمَتُّعِ بِالنَّظَرِ إِلَيْكَ وَ هَا أَنَا مُتَعَرِّضٌ لِنَفَحَاتِ رَوْحِكَ وَ عَطْفِكَ وَ مُنْتَجِعٌ غَيْثَ جُودِكَ وَ لُطْفِكَ فَارٌّ مِنْ سَخَطِكَ إِلَى رِضَاكَ هَارِبٌ مِنْكَ إِلَيْكَ رَاجٍ أَحْسَنَ مَا لَدَيْكَ مُعَوِّلٌ عَلَى مَوَاهِبِكَ مُفْتَقِرٌ إِلَى رِعَايَتِكَ إِلَهِي مَا بَدَأْتَ بِهِ مِنْ فَضْلِكَ فَتَمِّمْهُ وَ مَا وَهَبْتَ لِي مِنْ كَرَمِكَ فَلا تَسْلُبْهُ وَ مَا سَتَرْتَهُ عَلَيَّ بِحِلْمِكَ فَلا تَهْتِكْهُ وَ مَا عَلِمْتَهُ مِنْ قَبِيحِ فِعْلِي فَاغْفِرْهُ إِلَهِي اسْتَشْفَعْتُ بِكَ إِلَيْكَ ،

I ask You by the splendours of Your face and by the lights of Your holiness, and I implore You by the tender inclinations of Your mercy and the subtle kindnesses of Your goodness, to make true my expectation of what I hope for from Your abundant honouring and Your beautiful favour: nearness to You, closeness with You, and the joy of gazing upon You. Here I am, exposing myself to the breezes of Your refreshment and Your tenderness, seeking out the rain of Your bounty and Your kindness, fleeing from Your wrath to Your good pleasure, running from You to You, hoping for the best of what is with You, relying on Your gifts, in need of Your care. My God, what You have begun of Your grace, complete it; what You have given me of Your generosity, do not take it away; what You have covered over for me by Your forbearance, do not tear its veil; and what You know of my ugly deeds, forgive it. My God, I have sought Your intercession with You,

وَ اسْتَجَرْتُ بِكَ مِنْكَ أَتَيْتُكَ طَامِعاً فِي إِحْسَانِكَ رَاغِباً فِي امْتِنَانِكَ مُسْتَسْقِياً وَابِلَ طَوْلِكَ مُسْتَمْطِراً غَمَامَ فَضْلِكَ طَالِباً مَرْضَاتَكَ قَاصِداً جَنَابَكَ وَارِداً شَرِيعَةَ رِفْدِكَ مُلْتَمِساً سَنِيَّ الْخَيْرَاتِ مِنْ عِنْدِكَ وَافِداً إِلَى حَضْرَةِ جَمَالِكَ مُرِيداً وَجْهَكَ طَارِقاً بَابَكَ مُسْتَكِيناً لِعَظَمَتِكَ وَ جَلالِكَ فَافْعَلْ بِي مَا أَنْتَ أَهْلُهُ مِنَ الْمَغْفِرَةِ وَ الرَّحْمَةِ وَ لا تَفْعَلْ بِي مَا أَنَا أَهْلُهُ مِنَ الْعَذَابِ وَ النِّقْمَةِ بِرَحْمَتِكَ يَا أَرْحَمَ الرَّاحِمِينَ

and sought refuge in You from You. I have come to You eager for Your kindness, desiring Your favours, asking to drink from the downpour of Your bounty, seeking rain from the clouds of Your grace, seeking Your good pleasure, making for Your court, coming down to the watering-place of Your gifts, seeking the sublime good things that are with You, arriving as a guest in the presence of Your beauty, desiring Your face, knocking at Your door, humbled before Your greatness and Your majesty. So do with me what befits You of forgiveness and mercy, and do not do with me what befits me of punishment and vengeance, by Your mercy, O Most Merciful of the merciful.
