Imam al-Sajjad's (a) supplication for this day
بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَنِ الرَّحِيمِ
In the name of God, the All-Merciful, the Ever-Merciful.
بِسْمِ اللَّهِ كَلِمَةِ الْمُعْتَصِمِينَ وَ مَقَالَةِ الْمُتَحَرِّزِينَ وَ أَعُوذُ بِاللَّهِ تَعَالَى مِنْ جَوْرِ الْجَائِرِينَ وَ كَيْدِ الْحَاسِدِينَ وَ بَغْيِ الظَّالِمِينَ وَ أَحْمَدُهُ فَوْقَ حَمْدِ الْحَامِدِينَ اللَّهُمَّ أَنْتَ الْوَاحِدُ بِلا شَرِيكٍ وَ الْمَلِكُ بِلا تَمْلِيكٍ لا تُضَادُّ فِي حُكْمِكَ وَ لا تُنَازَعُ فِي مُلْكِكَ أَسْأَلُكَ أَنْ تُصَلِّيَ عَلَى مُحَمَّدٍ عَبْدِكَ وَ رَسُولِكَ وَ أَنْ تُوزِعَنِي مِنْ شُكْرِ نُعْمَاكَ مَا تَبْلُغُ بِي غَايَةَ رِضَاكَ
In the name of God, the word of those who hold fast and the saying of those who seek protection. I seek refuge in God, the Exalted, from the oppression of the oppressors, the scheming of the envious and the aggression of the wrongdoers, and I praise Him above the praise of all who praise. O God, You are the One without partner and the King without being granted kingship; You are not opposed in Your judgement, nor contested in Your dominion. I ask You to bless Muhammad, Your servant and Your Messenger, and to inspire me with gratitude for Your bounty by which You will bring me to the utmost of Your good pleasure,
وَ أَنْ تُعِينَنِي عَلَى طَاعَتِكَ وَ لُزُومِ عِبَادَتِكَ وَ اسْتِحْقَاقِ مَثُوبَتِكَ بِلُطْفِ عِنَايَتِكَ وَ تَرْحَمَنِي بِصَدِّي [وَ صُدَّنِي ] عَنْ مَعَاصِيكَ مَا أَحْيَيْتَنِي وَ تُوَفِّقَنِي لِمَا يَنْفَعُنِي مَا أَبْقَيْتَنِي وَ أَنْ تَشْرَحَ بِكِتَابِكَ صَدْرِي وَ تَحُطَّ بِتِلاوَتِهِ وِزْرِي وَ تَمْنَحَنِي السَّلامَةَ فِي دِينِي وَ نَفْسِي وَ لا تُوحِشَ بِي أَهْلَ أُنْسِي وَ تُتِمَّ إِحْسَانَكَ فِيمَا بَقِيَ مِنْ عُمْرِي كَمَا أَحْسَنْتَ فِيمَا مَضَى مِنْهُ يَا أَرْحَمَ الرَّاحِمِينَ
and to help me in obeying You, in holding fast to Your worship and in deserving Your reward by the kindness of Your care; to have mercy on me by turning me away from disobeying You for as long as You keep me alive, and to grant me success in what benefits me for as long as You let me remain; to open my breast with Your Book, to lift my burden by its recitation, to grant me soundness in my religion and in myself, not to leave those dear to me desolate on my account, and to complete Your goodness in what remains of my life just as You have done good in what has passed of it, O Most Merciful of the merciful.
